Colonel (USA, Ret) Michael R. Gonzales is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Three Towers Strategic Consulting. He is a proven leader with a demonstrated record of vision, expertise and accomplishment to his current position. He brings over 36 years of combined military and civilian experience to the consulting arena. During his career, he has worked with the Army, National Guard and other elements of the Joint, Inter-Agency, Inter-Governmental and International communities, and industry, on a multitude of vital programs with national and global implications.
During his 26 years of military service Colonel Gonzales served in a number of key command and staff assignments. In the aftermath of the tragic events of September 11, 2001, he served on the Joint and Inter-Agency Assessment team and as Senior Army Liaison to the North American Aerospace Defense Command’s (NORAD) Continental Region, during Operation Noble Eagle. Prior to that, he served as the Director of Strategic Operations and Missile Defense Integration for U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command facilitating the deployment of the Nation’s strategic Ground Based Mid-Course Missile Defense System. He also served as the Deputy Assistant Commandant of the U.S. Army Air Defense Artillery School and Deputy Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army Air Defense Artillery Center and Fort Bliss. Prior to assuming those duties, he served as Chairman of the Department of Strategy and Planning at the U.S. Army War College Strategic Studies Institute, the off-site “think tank” of the U.S. Army Deputy Chief of Staff for Plans and Operations and deployed to Paraguay to assist that nation during that country’s transition to democracy. He also served as the Chief of the National Guard Bureau’s Force XXI Task Force, spearheading the National Guard’s transformation efforts. He served as the Senior Liaison for 3rd U.S. Army / U.S. Army Central Command (ARCENT)(Forward) to the Saudi Arabian Military of Defense, during Operations Desert Falcon and Southern Watch, coordinating the Patriot missile rotations defending the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, after the Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. At the operational level, he led three battalions through their attainment of their initial operational certifications and deployment validations, including the Nation’s only Roland missile battalion and served as the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Adjutant General of New Mexico. His overseas service included tours in Germany, Saudi Arabia and Latin America. He was a Department of Defense Exchange Officer to the Federal Republic of Germany, served on the Tri-National Roland Coordination Council (United States, Germany and France), was President of the Allied Liaison Officer Group at Fort Bliss and was a guest instructor at the German Army and Air Force Air Defense Artillery Schools.
After a successful military career, Colonel Gonzales joined SY Coleman, a subsidiary of L-3 Communications, supporting U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command and facilitating a panel of retired Senior General and Flag officers, advising the Army and Joint communities on a variety of strategic missile defense issues. In 2004, he joined Modern Technology Solutions, Inc., a well respected aerospace engineering firm in Alexandria, VA, where he served as a Senior Engineer and Consultant, advising over 20 military and civilian federal and state government agencies and large and small industry partners in a variety of readiness and capabilities enhancements in the Defense, Homeland Defense and Homeland Security arenas, in many cases matching unique and cutting edge capabilities with emerging operational requirements. His efforts have resulted in a significant increase of sales for his clients, the deployment of cutting edge capabilities and have enhanced the effectiveness, readiness and safety of our deployed forces, while enabling the government to realize significant long-term efficiencies, and cost savings, that can be applied to other vital programs, critical to National Security, Homeland Defense and Homeland Security.
Colonel Gonzales has a Master’s of Public Administration from Shippensburg University, a Bachelor of Arts with a double major in History and Government (Honors), from New Mexico State University and an Associate of Arts in History and Military (Highest Honors), from New Mexico Military Institute. He is a graduate of the U.S. Army War College, and an Honor Graduate of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, a graduate of the NATO Civil-Military Cooperation Course and numerous other military courses.
He is a member of the National Board of Directors of the Army Scholarship Foundation, a member of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce National Security Task Force, an industry partner of the National Guard Association of the United States Homeland Security Task Force, serves on several committees on the U.S. Senate Youth Program Alumni Association and is a member of numerous other military, professional, religious and community service organizations and academic honoraries. He has also earned a number of military and civilian awards and decorations.
Colonel Gonzales is an excellent writer and an articulate and polished speaker and is fluent in both English and Spanish and has a working knowledge of German. He is married to the former Christine S. Smith. The couple has two children, Gabrielle Angelique Gonzales (13) and Michael Robert Gonzales II (11). The Gonzales family currently resides in Waldorf, Maryland.
